It's time to wrap up the week and I'm going to keep it short and sweet tonight. I had the privellege of speaking with some American Korean War disabled veterens today and was able to shake their hand and thank them for there service to our great country. During my discussion with them the subject came up about how our soldiers are being treated after serving their country.
As most everyone knows our Vietnam Vets were treated very poorly by a good portion of the American public when they returned from overseas. There was a strong anti war sentiment during the Vietnam conflict and unfortunately the veterans of that war felt the wrath of the public when they came home. The public saw no distinction from the politicians that make policy versus the soldiers that carry it out.
Today we have soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The majority of these soldiers are being treated well by the general public and most people are grateful for their service. Unfortunately it is now the government that they serve that is creating difficulties for our returning and retiring soldiers. Disabled veterens now are having a much harder time getting the Veteran's Administration (VA) provide them with care. And when the care is provided the quality of the care is questionable at times. I personally know an Iraq War Veteren who has had multiple problems with his health due to injuries he sustained while serving. In addition he has had to deal with post traumatic stress disorder. This soldier has had a horrendous time getting the VA to provide him with quality care. In addition when care has been provided he has had much difficulty in getting them to cover the cost of the care or the medications.
My friends this is unacceptable. The Korean War vets I met today agreed. Our vets fought to keep us free so that we may enjoy the freedoms that we have today. Now, in addition to trying to take away many of our freedoms our government wants to dump on our vets after their service is done. Once again, this is unacceptable. We must stand up for our vets. No matter what your feelings are about our government I implore you to please not take it out on our vets. These soldiers need our support as much as possible.
This is once again another example where our current government does not have their priorities straight. Make sure we let Washington know that we as a nation will not stand for the current treatment that our vets are getting.
As I said earlier in the week...The status quo in Washington D.C. MUST CHANGE. If the Constitution is not being followed then changes must be made. And while we are at it let's not forget the treatment of our forgotten American heroes.
I'll be off tomorrow and I look forward to writing to you again on Monday night. Have a great weekend and as always...STAY SAFE, STAY INFORMED, STAY ALERT
GOD BLESS AMERICA
