Hello folks,
How is everyone tonight on this fine Tuesday evening. Before we get into the topic of the night I wanted to give a shout out to Rand Paul in Kentucky for winning the Republican Senate primary. Just another sign that the American people are fed up with the same old song and dance in Washington D.C.
Speaking of being fed up, I am past being fed up with the situation in the Gulf of Mexico. It has now been four weeks since the accident onboard the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform. In that four weeks we have seen corporations and agencies fiddle fart around trying to get a handle on what is happening and so far the response has been lackluster in my opinion.
Is the public being told the truth about the size of the spill or the actual volume that is coming from the ruptured line. Some scientist have argued that based on the video footage that has been released it appears that much more than 5000 barrells of oil per day are being discharged into the sensitive Gulf of Mexico waters. In addition we are seeing video of only the plume we can see on the surface. In 5000 feet of water how much of the oil is being dispersed below the surface where we cannot see it? Why can't BP, Transocean, and/or the Federal Government get a hold of this situation? Irreversible damage is happening to the ecosystem in the Gulf and now there is evidence that the oil has entrained itself into the Gulf of Mexico loop current and is headed to the Florida Keys and beyond. A large volume oil spill in the Florida Keys would not only devestate the environment for many years to come but would also decimate Florida's already lackluster economy. In addition to the Keys other areas are under the gun as well. Miami's famed South Beach could easily see oil washing up on the shore as well as points further up the Florida East Coast. The only oil they want to see on Florida beaches is the SPF 15 that is on the bikini clad models. Another area that could be potentially under the gun is the Bahama's. I'm sure the Bahamian government is just going to be thrilled with the potentially devestating effects that could possibly be in store for their environment and their economy.
So the question remains...Why is it so difficult to get this flow capped off and stopped? This is America...We put a man on the moon, invented the automobile, was first in flight, and are or was the world's leader. The last statement there is a little questionable in recent years due to some continued nonsense going on in Washington. Whatever happened to American inginuity? I can just imagine that there are hundreds, maybe thousands of people in this country that could have a great idea to put a stop to the crisis that is currently happening. Not only the crisis that is currently happening in the Gulf but also the crisis of our dependency on petroleum based products for fuel.
Just think of the great inventors in our American history. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford, Orville and Wilbur Wright. The list goes on and on and on. But where have all the inventors gone? Why haven't we seen new innovations that will change our lives in the past few decades? One could argue that we have seen innovations. The internet (and no Al Gore didn't invent it), cellular phones, GPS, and digital photography were all great innovations. But were those inventions actually necessary. I recall a time where I went to the library to get my information, made phone calls with a quarter at the corner store, used a fold out map to find out where I was going, and had my Kodak film developed at Winn Dixie. No, the invention that I am talking about is one that will change all of our lives forever. Like the car and the airplane did in the early 1900's.
I personally feel that invention will be in the form of an alternative fuel source for automobiles. A clean, renewable resource that will eliminate our need for going to the gas station ever again.
But this will not happen as long as certain things stand in the way. First, big oil must take a back seat and realize that they are going the way of the dinosaur. If they would like to lead the way with this new technology then so be it...Just don't block it for the sake of your profits. Secondly, we need the America spirit to become alive and well again. This is so important to the future of our country. Not just in the way of inventions but in all aspects of the American life.
It is said that necessity is the mother of all invention. Right now I'd dare say that we have a dire necessity to change the status quo.
God Bless America

Tomorrow night I will cover the growing Socialist agenda in this country as well as some very disturbing remarks from Actor Woody Allen...Not that he should be taken seriously!
